The translation from program to building design is initiated in the schematic phase, where we respond quickly by expeditiously researching options and illustrating them with small-scale design studies. At CJA, we have found that developing several small-scale schemes allows the initial focus to remain on the overall, global design rather than the details. These studies also prompt questions and discussion. The key is to maintain a client-participatory process rather than create an architecturally driven "statement" with little input or discussion. Our strong CADD capabilities cultivate clarity. We employ AutoCAD drafting document production, and utilize the Internet for timely exchange of drawings among consultants and clients. Our supporting systems during the process also include sophisticated software and equipment for computer-generated 3-D graphic images and computer modeling, color graphic exhibits, digital photography, documentation, scheduling, spreadsheets and information/database management.
